Their Journey To America
Ellen Stanton was born in Kerry County, Ireland to Edmund Stanton. Exact birth date is unknown. But it is believed she migrated to America, probably through New York, sometime between 1840 and 1860 where she met and married a man named Owen Canty. It is belived both Ellen and Owen first lived in Syracuse, New York where they had their first child, Margaret, in 1861. Sometime afterwards they moved to Wisconsin where Eleanor was born in 1868 and finally resided in Lawler, Iowa the birthplace of their last daughter Catherine, born in 1870. There is no information about their two sons, Edward and Eugene, other than where they passed away. Only marriage and death information is available on their fourth daughter Mary.
