Their Journey To America
Edmund Stanton was born in Ireland (date and place unknown). He spent much of his life there as a weaver and, like Jeremiah Canty, had left Ireland looking for work in England. His daughter Hanna, who was born in Kerry County, Ireland in 1830, met and married Jeremiah while living in England with her family. Eventually Edmund moved his family to America where his descendants still live today. The name and birthdate of his wife still remains a mystery.
Two other offspring from the Edmund Stanton family married two from the Thomas Canty family (Jeremiah's father). They all had migrated to America and settled in the Lodi area and some in the town of West Point, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Ellen Stanton (born in Ireland) married Owen Canty and Michael Stanton who was also born in Ireland (in 1839) married Nora Canty.
