Their Journey To America
William O'Brien was born in Holy Cross on May 28th, 1805 in the parish of the Holy Cross, County Tipperary, Ireland. He came to America in April of 1833 at the age of twenty-eight. He had lived in many eastern states before settling down in Wisconsin in 1845. In around 1843 he met and married a woman named Mary Kelly who was born on September 8th, 1816 in Ireland. It is believed that Mary's father, named Patrick Kelly, was living with them in 1850. This is the only history available on Mary Kelly's family. William and Mary had a total of five children: three girls named Ellen, Alice, and Mary; and two boys named James Francis & Patrick William. The oldest son, James, married Maria Canty, the oldest daughter of Jerimiah Canty and Hanna Stanton on May 1st, 1877.
